Andrew Keen's thoughts on how internet is killing our culture. Basically he is not able to see the whole picture of what new forms can emerge as the old industry is being displaced.NB: Web interaction: we are lonely, and the web gives us new masks, allowinng us to have a fresh new start of unbiased, unprejudiced, non-judgmental new start. This is exactly what the church should provide people. And technology beat the church to it.
Notes: - Alternatives like Reddit and Digg lead us to focus on self-indulgences and cheap culture, entertainment, distracting us from serious journalism such as world news, etc, which calls for our civic duty. (NB: Author neglects the many spoof newspapers that exist today.)
- Amateurism is displacing genuine talent and artists and professionals.
- Traditional talents which requires nurturing environments no longer possible.
- Bloggers, even the most famous, cannot rely on ad fees to quit their real job.
Nobel amateurs - instead of dictator of experts, we have dictator of idiots.
- Fails to notice that free content on the web brings many people access to knowledge that they would not otherwise have.
the day the music died - Tower Records out of biz.
- NB: Author cannot see that with current tech, people demands new forms of interaction and new models for consumption of digital media. That people prefers CraigsList and YouTube rather than traditional media should not make these new companies culprit for the demise of old firms.
Moral disorder - internet gambling, opium for the masses,
- porn sites everywhere: seduces us into acting on our most deviant instincts and succumb to our most destructive vices
