Another type of fraud   Print
Written by Wei-Jing Zhu

When my answering machine showed someone calling about my ConEd bill, I discovered a new type of fraud going on.

I called back the number 800-815-7053, to hear the lady Harriett say that they are having a promotion or program to reduce the Con Ed bill guaranteed, without any payment.  They ask for the Con-Ed customer ID number, which got me suspicious.  (If ConEd really have a program, why shouldn't it be automatic?  Furthermore, why call people individually to get their ID number?)

I googled the number, to get http://whocalled.us/lookup/8008157053 telling me that this seems to be a scam for a competitor to get customer ID and switch people from Con Ed unknowingly.

Be ware!
